Yes, after almost nine weeks on the trail and covering just over 500 miles I did a surprise visit back home to see my wife, Brenda, my children and grandchildren, and our Conference Grounds family for Labor Day weekend. It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over and fall is around the corner. That I have completed the A/T in Maine, New Hampshire, and almost half way through Vermont. It has been a challenge, but I have been blessed by so many hikers and made many friendships along the way! Missing family and home it was time to be refreshed and hopefully gain back some of the 25 lbs! I had lost! Trail food and my level of effort we’re not quite meeting my bodily requirements. Need to figure this out!

My surprise was successful as I flew home from Rutland, Vermont, to Grand Rapids, Michigan. My son picked me up brought me home where I was able to surprise my dear wife and have a

tearful reunion. Life is good! I will be home until Tuesday. September 4. My wife and I will the. Discuss if I head back to the trail as a through hiker still hoping to be done by Thanksgiving Day (highly unlikely), or stay home and become a yearly section hiker to complete my A/T journey. We ask for your prayers as we make this decision on where God is directing us. I will post an update next week Wednesday, September 5, on our decision.

Blessings Mike and Brenda!
